有馬さんにその後駆け足で国東の方、別府と案内してもらいました。大分の国東は仏教文化の栄えた場所で、国東塔と呼ばれる独自の石の塔があったり有名な熊野磨崖仏などなど石像が至る所にあります。また阿弥陀如来像の木彫仏やら、平安時代の木彫仏があるところでもあります。（ものすごい迫力がありました）私がとても興味深かったのは、このような場所で有馬さんが彫るということで作品を創るのは何か関係があるような気がしました。それほどまでに素晴らしい作品がひっそりと存在しています。

After visiting his atlier, Shinpei san guided me through Kunisaki, and Beppu. Buddhism culture flourished in Kunisaki. There are so many sculptures which are made of stone. One of them, called Kunisaki-tou is a unique sculpture in Japan. And there are  Buddhas and other gods who are made by wood carving in Heian period.（794-1185) They have such a strong impression. The most interesting thing for me is that Shinpei is making  sculptures in such a place. I feel they have some kind of relationship.  There are so many beautiful works Kunisaki Oita.

 

 

 

富貴寺は九州最古の和様建築だそうです。今は色あせひっそりとしたたたずまいですが、かつては内装は極彩色に彩られたお寺だったそうです。当時外観とのコントラストがさぞ美しかったでしょう。 

The Fukiji temple is the oldest wooden architecture in Kyushu. Its colors are fading in calmness but a long time ago the chamber was vividly colored with mural paintings. It has been a wonderful contrast between inside and outside.

It was a short stay in Oita, but I could feel something his work's inspiration around here where shinpei lives. After the trip I got the idea of making jewelry with Shinpei Arima. I already have some things in mind. Don't miss it! Thank you very much to Shinpei Arima san!
